"Surfsong shall stay on our minds..." Reviewed May 20, 2013
Where to begin! We recently returned from our magical stay at Surfsong and our first trip to the BVI. After the months of planning and looking forward to finally experiencing all that we had learned from research and photos and deciding upon Surfsong for our accommodations, we arrived and the beauty of Surfsong blossomed before our eyes. It is all that we had read about, hoped, and wished for.
The location is convenient to the airport and the rest of the island yet tucked away beside beautiful Well Bay and nestled amongst a serene and natural landscape setting that truly made one feel like you were residing in your own private world. This quality sets Surfsong apart from any other experience, in that the intimacy of your stay is complemented by superb amenities and impeccable service and attention from the owner and staff. We thought the experience couldn't get any better because of the beauty and loveliness of the resort and our exquisite villa by the sea, with a setting that looks as if it came straight from a fairytale, all lapping crystal blue seas and palms moving in the breeze. But the wonderful team of Surfsong is what made the stay one we shall never forget, and one that warmed our hearts, nourished our souls, and planted the seeds of an impending (and hopefully very soon) return.
Simon was there from the very beginning and helped us carefully plan this wonderful trip; his attention to detail and wonderful assistance are what made all of this possible (you are wonderfully awesome, Simon!) and that helped make our stay once on the ground very memorable. Martina ensured that we were very well taken care of each and every day and helped orchestrate our day and evening activities with such pleasant efficiency and a wonderful smile always upon her face. Laura was a joy to greet every day - from the wonderful breakfasts and lunches to helping make our special evening event perfect. Her kindness, enthusiasm, and keen attention to detail were fantastic. We opted for the meal plan, and it was a culinary adventure, thanks to Chef Kellen. The dishes were crafted with such skill and care, and the flavors were perfectly melded together amongst courses and were out of this world. He is a true talent, and we enjoyed each dinner - they were all one to remember. We are most grateful to Cate, for all of the assistance with plans and for welcoming us so warmly to Surfsong and checking to make sure we had everything that we needed. We also enjoyed the company of Healey, the sweet resort dog, and Buddha, the adorable resort cat. And yes, Dougie is great for all of your transportation needs (and fun conversation), and Dougie Sr. made our day with his impromptu island tour on the way back from our day sail.
Our time felt entirely too short, even though nearly a week. We felt we had become part of Surfsong and its family and felt welcomed by everyone. This place is truly one of a kind, with a special energy that will refresh you and make you want to return. It was a perfect balance of lovely accommodations, beautiful and serene location, and superb service all with a low key approach that makes the overall experience completely unique and fulfilling. Go to Surfsong. You will enjoy the stay of a lifetime!
Take time to walk over to Long Bay East (about 15 minutes). It is a beautiful beach with gorgeous water that was not very crowded. It is best for swimming and sunbathing. Take a camera!
Trellis Bay is within walking distance (20 minutes) and makes for a fun afternoon. Try the Dark and Stormy at Trellis Kitchen!
Don't forget bug spray; the resort has some available in the reception area if needed as well as citronella candles and torches.
The best Painkiller we enjoyed on the island was crafted by the highly talented Simon - don't miss it!
Do not miss out on seeing The Baths. You can do this yourself without a day tour. A ferry is available at Trellis Bay and a taxi can take you to the The Baths in just a few minutes. It is worth the trip. Make sure you go over to Devil's Bay while there - it is amazing. Plus, there is a hidden trail that will take you to a small cove with more boulders, crashing waves of blue, and stacks of cairn rocks that have been left by other visitors.
If you are into day sails and snorkeling, we highly recommend going with Aristocat Charters. It was a fantastic experience.
